Gutter Damage: The Common Causes

Your gutter system is actually another line of defense for your home. After all, without it, rainwater would just rundown your roof, causing water damage to your roof, siding and foundation. As such, it’s important that your gutter system remain in top form. Unfortunately, it’s possible for your gutters to sustain damage every now and then. But how exactly do your gutters sustain damage?

Here are the common causes of gutter damage.

Inadequate Pipes

For your gutters to properly work, you need to have the right amount of rainwater pipes around your home, and the number of rainwater pipes you need depends on the size of your property and the length of your gutters. Unfortunately, this is where the problem sometimes lies as some homes don’t have the right amount of rainwater pipes attached to their gutter system, resulting in water overflowing and adding weight to the gutters. This can cause them to sag as a result.

Blockages

Every now and then, be sure to have a pro come and remove the dirt and debris that builds up in your gutters. This is because if left unattended, gutter blockages can prevent your gutters from catching and diverting rainwater away from your home, causing it to overflow, sag and, eventually, pull away from your roofline due to the excess amount of water. This makes blockages one of the common causes of gutter damage.

Faulty Gutter Installation

On the other hand, if your gutter installation is faulty to begin with, you can expect your gutter system to sustain damage if this isn’t fixed as soon as possible. According to experts, if the gutter installation is faulty, it can prevent water from draining properly and leave the system vulnerable to damage from the elements at the same time.
